Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where are you located?

A: We can be found at 12-23 River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ.

Q: Why are you closed on Mondays? Didn’t you used to be closed on Tuesdays?

A: Our day off reflects changes in our shipping schedule. We used to get shipments on Wednesday, which is also new book day. We now get our shipments on Tuesdays, so we can process them and have them on the shelves first thing Wednesday morning.

Q:¬†You get your shipments on Tuesdays? Why can’t I buy my stuff on Tuesdays?

A: Similar to the way DVD’s are released on Tuesdays, there is an industry standard street date of Wednesdays for all new comic book product. Our distributors issue harsh penalties on those of us who break street date, so it is something that we are very careful to adhere to. This keeps things simple for retailers, in that it creates a unified release date for all products in a given week.

Q: You buy stuff, right? What do you buy?

A: Yes, we do buy stuff, but only if we need it. We are mainly interested in comics from the 70’s and older, but other stuff isn’t out of the question. We like all sorts of toys, figures, and collectibles from all eras. All buying is done by appointment, so be sure to call ahead and ask to speak to our buyer for details.

Q: I didn’t see what I was looking for in the store. Does that mean you don’t have it? Should I give up and run away?

A: No! What you see on our sales floor is just a selection of our inventory. We have thousands more books in our back room, and thousands more in our fabled warehouse. Same goes for toys, statues, etc. Also, if we are actually out of something you’re looking for, we’ll do our best to find it for you. Just ask one of our friendly, well-groomed associates for assistance.

Q: Why don’t you guys deal in CGC’d books?

A: We here at the Joker’s Child believe that comics are meant to be read. Once a book has been through the CGC process, it is sealed in a plastic case never to be opened again. It’s nothing personal, it just doesn’t jive with our philosophy.
